EGR stands for Exhaust Gas Recirculation, and is part of a system that reduces the nitrogen oxide, or NOx, emissions produced by combustion engines.

An EGR valve operates by recirculating some of an engine’s exhaust gases and sending them to the engine intake which introduces them into the combustion.
